Photographes d'Asie (1840-1944) (website), viewed March 9, 2019 (Dumas, Tancrède, 1830-1905; Beyrouth, 1860-1895; Italian of French origin, his parents had emigrated to Milan; he seems to have learned photography in Florence; in 1860 he founded a studio in Constantinople and made "cartes de visite" format; in 1866 he was in Beirut in the consulate quarter and seemed to be an employee for the maison Bonfils; he did portraits, views of Beirut and Damascus, Upper Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey, as well as Greece and Mesopotamia, according to his 1872 catalogue; in 1878 he proposed the sale of four albums of 100 views each (not realized); that year he accompanied the duke of Mecklembourg on his trip and thus became "photographe de la Cour de Prusse"; from 1885, his photos are signed Dumas et fils)
