  • Information found: (The contents of the S. Congregational Church Collection Box adduce written accounts and records from the South Congregational Church of Middletown, Conn. that present histories of the church from between the time of its inception in 1747 and 1997. After its founding, the worship services of the S. Congregational Church were held in private homes, notably the home of the church's first pastor, Rev. Ebenezer Frothingham, after his appointment in 1747. The first house of worship was erected in 1774 on the east side of Main St., the southern corner of Mill St. in Middletown. The second house of worship was erected on corner of Main and Crescent St. in Middletown until demolished in 1867 when a third structure made of brick was erected in the same location. The third structure is still in its place today)
