- Information found: (Franklin, Buck Colbert; lawyer, freedman, farmer; born 06 May 1879 in Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma, United States; his maternal grandmother was black and his maternal grandfather was half Choctaw and half black, he and his siblings were enrolled as Choctaw freedmen (1891); went by his initials (B.C.) as an adult to prevent whites from calling him by his first name; attended the Dawes Academy in Berwyn, Indian Territory (1894-1896), entered Roger Williams University in Nashville, Tennessee two years later, went to Atlanta Baptist College in 1900, but returned to Indian Territory after one year; he was a lifelong Jeffersonian Democrat, lawyer for the Tulsa riot cases, honored by the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Tulsa YMCA (1959); died September 24, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States)
