African American National Biography, accessed April 26, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Boyd, Richard Henry; Dick Gray; Baptist clergy; born 15 March 1843 in Noxubee County, Mississippi, United States; studied at Bishop College, Marshall, Texas; was ordained Baptist minister (1869) and became pastor at Mount Zion Church, San Antonio, Texas; was a leader of the black Baptist community in Texas (1870s-1880s), organizer and education secretary at the Texas Negro Baptist Convention (TNBC); formed General Missionary Baptist Convention (GMBC) (1893) and served as superintendent; was a member of the National Baptist Publishing Board (NBPB) and secretary and treasurer (1896-1922); organized National Baptist Convention of America (NBCA) (1915); established and was president (1904-1922) of the Nashville's One Cent Savings Bank; was vice president of the National Negro Business League; died 23 August 1922 in Nashville, Tennessee, United States)
