In 1953 graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a B.A., followed by an M.A. in philsophy in 1956. He earned an S.T.L (Licentiate in Sacred Theology) from West Baden College in 1962 and an S.S.L (Licentiate in Sacred Scripture) from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome in 1965, followed by an S.S.D.(Doctor of Sacred Scripture) in 1969. He taught at the Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago from 1967 to its closing in 1981. Bill has been associated with the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University since 1971, and taught there full time from 1981 until some months before his death on September 24, 1996)
