Lloyd Warner; William Lloyd Warner (October 26, 1898-May 23, 1970) was a pioneering anthropologist; born in Redlands, California; enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley in 1921 and studied English; became interested in sociology and later received his B.A. from Berkeley in 1925; from 1929 to 1935 Warner studied at Harvard University in the department of anthropology and the Business School, yet did not defend his thesis nor receive his doctoral degree; while at Harvard, he taught at the Graduate School of Busiiness Administration; In 1935, he was appointed professor of anthropology and sociology at the University of Chicago, where he remained until 1959, when he was appointed professor of social research at Michigan State University; died on May 23, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois)
